Lack of Offense Leads to Another Third Place Finish

Valparaiso, IN 5/10/2014

Despite coming out with two quick wins, Street Kids Softball struggled afterwards, losing the next two and finishing a disappointing third place for the third straight tournament.

SKS beat Del-Mar 16-1 and then beat CCAC 18-10 before losing to Floors 20-11 and then losing to CCAC in the losers bracket final, 18-11. CCAC went on to win the tournament, double dipping Floors in the finals.

"Most teams would consider third place a good weekend," said head coach JR Shapiro. "But when you spend the last several seasons expecting to reach the finals every weekend, its tough finishing third. But these guys are battling and we'll be back real fast."

Tim Austin, Bobby Edelberg and Ronnie Simmons were all named to the all-tourney team. It was the second selection this season for Edelberg and Simmons and the first for Austin.

The Kids (13-9 this season) return to the diamond this weekend in Kankakee, Illinois for an NSA event.
