SKS Lose to Plumbers; Finish Third in Indy

Indianapolis, IN 4/12/2014

SKS came out strong on Saturday in Indianapolis at the USSSA Tilted Kilt event, beating Floors 32-20 but then falling to Plumbers and Pipefitters 31-21. In the losers bracket they won two in a row - beating H&D 9-5 and K&G 15-6 - before losing to Rockstar 19-12, ending their day and finishing third.

There were a couple bright spots for SKS (9-5 overall), including the continued hot hitting of Jamie Simpson. Simpson batted .857 in the five games and was almost as equally matched by Mike Bailey, who batted .813 on the day. Nick Bishop also was named to his second straight all-tourney team.

Notes: Infielder Jay Jeffery went down with what appeared to be a hamstring injury. He is resting it and is hoping to return for the next tourney in two weeks.... Nick Bishop continues to impress teammates and coaches with his role as a back up pitcher. This will be a huge asset to the team down the stretch this year backing up starter Lanny Fisher.... Outfielder Scott Martin made one of the best catches many in attendance have ever seen, climbing the wall and reaching even farther to rob a home run during one of the games.
